Relational organizing has a history as old as organizing itself, exemplified by the Civil Rights movement, United Farm Workers Movement, and other labor organizing efforts throughout the 20th century. Relational organizing – leveraging social networks to influence electoral outcomes – will be a critical part of our campaign. In particular, relational voter turnout (RVT) has been one of the most promising voter turnout tactics studied by the Analyst Institute in recent years. Where direct comparison was possible, the effects of friend-to-friend communication were about twice as large as more traditional get-out-the-vote outreach in which volunteers contact strangers.
“Relational voter contact” programs can include tactics ranging from personal phone calls or SMS, to tagging friends on Facebook, to personalized pictures on mailers. Though tech-oriented, scalable approaches to relational voter engagement date back to the Obama campaign’s Targeted Sharing program in 2012, the latest generation of tools was developed starting in the 2016 campaign cycle.
Join us to learn more about organizing your social network and using Outreach Circle, a free app and organizing tool. Angela Levine will discuss this critical program, then Bree Hendrick will provide training on the use of Outreach Circle to help you engage in a more meaningful and impactful way for Team Terri and Get Out the Vote efforts!
There are two opportunites to participate in this valuable training: Aug 3 at noon-1pm & Aug 5 at 7:30-8:30pm
It may be helpful to download the app to your mobile device or computer prior to attending the training if you haven’t already done so.
